Northwood Gymnastics Club has been established for over 25 years and is based in the Sports Hall in the grounds of St Helen's School in Northwood. We are a recreational club and welcome gymnasts of all ages and abilities. The sessions are structured around each gymnast’s ability so they can develop but at the same time are designed to be fun. We follow the British Gymnastics award scheme so that gymnasts are able to work towards badges. There is also an annual Club competition which all gymnasts are invited to compete in.
In a typical session gymnasts will work on the floor and on vault. Each session contains a warm up at the beginning to ensure that gymnasts are physically and mentally ready for exercise. This helps prevent injuries such as overstretching muscles.
In February 2007 we were awarded an accreditation called Gym Mark. This accreditation was developed by British Gymnastics and is only awarded to Clubs who meet the very strict criteria necessary. Some of the criteria necessary to receive the accreditation are:
Coaches must be properly qualified and are members of British Gymnastics.
Coaches have attended a Child Protection Awareness course
All coaches are CRB checked
The senior coaches must have attended an Equity in Coaching course
At least one coach must have an up to date first aid qualification
Strict safety guidelines must be adhered to and regular risk assessments carried out
